COAST GUARD ESTABLISHES SAFETY ZONE

KODIAK, Alaska - The Coast Guard has established a safety zone in the vicinity of Narrow Cape and Ugak Island due to operations at the Kodiak Launch Complex.

The safety zone will be in effect from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, 2006, between 2 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day, or until cancelled. The safety zone includes all navigable waters contained within the area bordered by the following points: 57 to 29.8 degrees north, 152 to 17.0 degrees west, 57 to 21.1 degrees north, 152 to 11.2 degrees west, 57 to 19.9 degrees north, 152 to 14.2 degrees west, 57 to 25.4 degrees north and 152 to 28.2 degrees west, and then northeast to the point located at 57 to 29.8 degrees north and 152 to 17.0 degrees west.

Unauthorized entry into or through this zone is strictly prohibited and may result in civil and/or criminal penalties, including fines of up to $32,500.

There will also be second exclusion zone approximately 85 miles at a course of 140 degrees true down range of the launch site, from Kodiak Island from Aug 31 to Sept. 4, 2006, between 2 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. each day, or until cancelled. The hazard area is defined by the points 56 to 36.0 degrees north, 151 to 00.0 degrees west, 56 to 3.0 degrees north, 150 to 21.0 degrees west, then southwest to a point located at 55 to 57.0 degrees north, 150 to 39.0 degrees west, and then northwest to a point located at 56 to 30.0 degrees north, and 151 to 18.0 degrees west, and then northeast to the point located at 56 to 36.0 degrees north and 151 to 00.0 degrees west.

All mariners are strongly advised to stay clear of these areas.
