Memorial service for Coast Guardsman in Ketchikan

JUNEAU, Alaska - A memorial service is scheduled for Petty Officer 1st Class Sefton Reid to be held at Integrated Support Command Ketchikan Thursday at 11 a.m.

Reid, 31, with 11 years of Coast Guard service was assigned to Station Ketchikan for the past year. He leaves behind four children.

The Ketchikan Fire Department reported witnesses stated that Reid was fishing from the shore in Herring Cove, hit by a wave, pulled into the water and did not resurface. The Ketchikan Fire Department recovered his body in Herring Cove 8 miles south of Ketchikan at 12:14 p.m. on Saturday.

Rescuers from the Ketchikan Fire Department, Station Ketchikan and a commercial diving company responded. The divers located Reid.

The service will be held in the gymnasium at 1300 Stedman Street and is open to the public.
