KODIAK, Alaska – Cmdr. Matthew Barre, Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak's executive officer, awards Lt. Steve Bonn the Coast Guard Air Medal during a ceremony April 5 at the air station here. Bonn earned the medal for his participation during rescue operations following the explosion and sinking of the motor vessel Bow Mariner Feb. 28, 2004 off the coast of Virginia. Bonn and his Jayhawk crew rescued six of the vessel's crewmen while flying through fumes from the remaining diesel fuel and ethanol cargo. Bonn is currently stationed here. He is the son of Ruth and Vernon Bonn of Guymon, Okla. (Official U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Paul Roszkowski)
