KODIAK, Alaska- Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st class Scott W. Lynch achieved his personal 13-year career goal back on Sept. 20, 2004. Lynch was afforded the opportunity to attend flight engineering school in Tampa, Fla., and was the first Aviation Electronics Technician (AET) to ever attend the school. Lynch who was an AET for most of his career always had a particular interest in mechanics. “I thought I’d be good at working on engines, and I wanted to prove I could do it,” Lynch said. Lynch attended the school for three months and returned to the air station here to work in the C-130 aircraft engineering shop. “He is a mature petty officer, and is able to handle technical issues, with him it was a no-brainer to send him to the school. It was an easy decision,” said Chief Warrant Officer Keith Chapman, engineering, Air Station Kodiak. It wasn’t possible for Lynch to attend the school because he was already trained as an AET, but over a decade later his request was accepted. “I’ve lived here for 15 years, I had to leave for twenty months, but was able to come back to Kodiak, and that was a good thing,” said Lynch.(Official Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Christopher D.
