COAST GUARD COMMANDANT TO DELIVER STATE OF THE COAST GUARD ADDRESS

WASHINGTON -Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thad Allen will deliver his State of the Coast Guard address Thursday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. at the National Press Club.

In this annual address, Allen will outline the Service's goals and priorities for 2008, highlighting the strategic, budgetary, and legislative priorities the Coast Guard will undertake in the future to sustain readiness across all its vital missions, from saving lives to protecting ports.

Allen will also discuss ongoing modernization and transformation initiatives currently underway to improve training, resource allocation, financial management, risk management and unity of effort across all levels of government. These efforts to closely integrate budget, programs, policy and legislation will optimally position the Coast Guard to meet new challenges in the future while enhancing the nation's maritime safety, security and environmental stewardship today.

The Commandant will be available to meet with media in attendance for a question and answer session immediately following his address.
