    KODIAK, Alaska – Petty Officer Andrew Famula, Petty Officer Aaron Bean and Petty Officer Brian Lickfield stand in front of Coast Guard helicopter 6513 after receiving awards for their efforts on Dec. 8, 2004 during the rescue of the crewmen from the motor vessel Selendag Ayu. Bean, a rescue swimmer, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Famula and Lickfield were awarded Air Medals. Bean and Lickfield were crewmen aboard Coast Guard helicopter 6020 on Dec. 8, 2004. While Bean was on the deck of the stricken freighter assisting the ship’s crew into the helicopter’s hoist basket a large wave struck the ship and engulfed the helicopter sending it crashing into the sea. The crash killed six of the seven Seledang Ayu crewmen who were aboard the helicopter. Bean and Lickfield were rescued by another Coast Guard helicopter crew flying the HH-6513. Famula was the flight mechanic aboard Coast Guard helicopter 6021 on Dec. 8, 2004. He hoisted nine crewmen from the Selendang Ayu.
